Welcome to my professional Artist Portfolio. Although an engineer by profession but my interest in painting has been since my childhood and always on a lookout for some subjects of interest. One of my defining principles is establishing an open dialogue between form and function in all aspects of my artwork. Look through my work to see this in action, and get in touch for more information and assistance if any.

Landscape History through paintings

"Glimpses of Mumbai - Bombay then"

The city of Mumbai "Bombay then" has a unique history, unlike any other place, for its growth from tiny small islands to what it is now and would be hence… The earlier visual data on Mumbai was in the form of sketches/drawings since photography was introduced in Mumbai for the first time only in 1850s, the period coinciding with the demolition of the erstwhile Bombay Fort i.e. the actual city limits at one time.

The Bombay Fort is a big mystery to many, as far as its existence, its overall view, and its limits are concerned. As being from the Navy and when posted at Mumbai Fort office, it became a subject of great interest to me during my free time, including the weekends and the holidays. The study was focused on the literature that is available on Mumbai’s history, including the sketches, drawings and photographs of those times. I was equally concerned that I should not be replicating the work that already exists, therefore had to make several visits to   the museums, libraries, etc.

The result of this study is the series of these paintings providing the visual impression of the Mumbai City "Bombay then" with its Fort at one time and the seven islands. (The works can also be viewed in a specially created website titled "http://www.amchi-mumbai,com")

Landscape History of Powai

"A Paradise in the Midst of Mumbai"

Powai was a paradise and is still a paradise in the midst of Mumbai. The place was a jungle with sparse settlements along the Miti River, with the first major transformations coming in the form of the dams across the river starting 1891 by the British to augment water supply to the then Bombay City, Further developments followed by setting up of IIT Bombay Campus in 1958 and then the Hiranandani landscape in early 1990s. My memories of this place are dated back since 1983 consequent of managing to get a window seat and watching the place every time I visited. In 2004 I was lucky to have a short stay prior moving to Colaba and finally a life time decision as destiny had to get me here to settle with my family.  Hiranandani is a revolution in the architecture history of India and Powai’s Hiranandani became a attraction to everyone. The place was so mesmerizing that I decided to capture these scenes through my paintings, few of these works are displayed in the corporate office of Hiranandani i.e Olympia building at Powai Mumbai.

Seascapes

Paintings on Seascape

Being an Artist in the Naval uniform, the scenes from the upper decks of the ships left a captivating impression in the mind. Though there is a quantum leap in the revolution of photography technology, but an artist perception is always different and the same is shown in the works below.
